Slobodna Energija is an independent project hub and open lab dedicated to practical experiments, open hardware, and digital sovereignty. Our mission is decentralized energy, free software, and technological autonomy built for the common good.

We are not a bureaucratic institution or a closed corporate entity. Slobodna Energija is an open playground for makers, researchers, and curious minds where every prototype, schematic, code repository, and telemetry measurement is completely public and freely accessible.

Why Decentralized Energy & Open Technology?

Energy and computing infrastructures govern modern life, yet they are increasingly centralized, opaque, and monopolized. We advocate and build for an alternative model:

  1. Energy Autonomy: Solar irradiance and wind are abundant and free. By combining solar photovoltaics, microinverters, and open battery management systems, every household, workshop, or community can achieve real energy self-reliance.
  2. Open Source Hardware & Software: Technology must be understandable, repairable, and free from planned obsolescence. Closed-source "black boxes" lock users into commercial dependencies. We design and test open-source hardware with inspectable circuit schematics, open PCB layouts, and transparent firmware.
  3. Digital Sovereignty: We deploy energy-efficient edge servers (such as Raspberry Pi micro-nodes), resilient LoRa sensor telemetry, and local-first software — operating without surveillance, recurring cloud subscriptions, or vulnerability to public power grid outages.

How We Work

Our work is driven by pragmatic, hands-on engineering principles:

  • Measure before building: We never build based on mere guesswork. Every initiative starts with real data: we deploy sensors to analyze solar irradiance, thermal performance, and actual energy loads before procuring or recommending any hardware.
  • Open prototypes: We validate ideas through tangible, low-cost prototypes — from portable off-grid solar stations and environmental monitors to autonomous server nodes. We test in real conditions and learn openly from failures.
  • 100% Open Source: All electrical schematics, firmware, CAD designs, and documentation are published under permissive open-source licenses on GitHub. When a prototype works, we provide reproducible build guides. If an experiment fails, we share the post-mortem so others save time.
  • Community-driven ideas: Projects start as small "sprouts". Anyone with a technical idea, an appetite for experimentation, a testing location, or open hardware to hack is warmly welcome to collaborate.
